This thread is for discussing the topic of Alt raiding.

It is my feeling that Alts should not be permitted in "progression" raids, unless they fill a very specific need for said raid, and don't suck.

However, anything that is on farm, I feel, should be open to Alts. We play Alts to have fun and take a break from the characters we labor with week after week, and gearing up is part of that fun. We all know that PUG'ing sucks and we shouldn't be forced to do it to get gear.

Also, Alts should not be carried through Naxx 25 in full greens, either, but progress through Heroic, 10-man, and then 25-man gear just like everyone else. As far as I'm concerned, 10-man raids are for Alts; all the main raiders have gear that is plenty sufficient to start Ulduar in a few weeks, and by the time we all have the new best-in-slot items, we'll have plenty of Void Crystals to enchant them.

If the powers that be decide to make an official Void Crystal push before 3.1.0 to get everyone enchanted, and agree to do Alt raids for places on farm after that, I'm sure everyone would be fine with that, but to say that Alts can't raid is just dumb.

Well, that's my 2c, everyone please add your own...

Edit: Another point I thought of in the shower is that the more people know about more than their own class, the better. Learning fights from a different standpoint is invaluable; knowledge = power. :-)

Personaly i am a huge fan of alts. I enjoy seeing the game from a different view and experience. But i would never expect my alt to be invited to a raid and get carried through it. While we say we have 25 naxx on farm i think there are levels of farm. Last week it was pretty rough, but i dont think that alts caused that run to be that way, rather that some of the people that have been raiding since the begining were on vacation (Which is completely acceptable) or just havent been around or not bothering to turn up since they got geared out.
As long as the alt serves a point it should be allow to raid. Last week we needed a tank and destroyy filled that perfectly. He has got destroyy geared through heroics and 10mans so i was happy to have him in the raid. Alts that are simply along to replace greens or low level blues shouldnt be invited period imo. Forget taxing them crystals for a spot that idea suprised me...

Anyways gotta run

It's common sense mostly. No alts on progression raids, that's a given, and alts if we need them for something or the class we're losing isn't crucial. This sucks for healers and tanks who'd like to dps unless we have extras, but that's the way it works. Finally for 10 mans, specially naxx but for anything else, you have to have made some effort to get gear through heroics, emblems and crafting before we can accept to run an alt.

I’m a little torn with regard to this subject. While I agree with the progression content being solely for the mains, I think for the 10man content it’s not a bad idea to carry through some alts or some fresh 80 mains.
I’ve done this a lot prior to joining this guild with friends, people I know or a fellow guild member. It did not bother me at all. The only time that it got to me was when I didn’t know the person that got geared up during that run. So I guess I’m a little biased against people I know or a guildie. But I'm fine with carrying through an alt or a newly fresh 80 guild member through 10man content.
