I propose that we use Guild Event Manager to organize our raids. It has many more features and options than the built-in Calendar, and this addon has been used since vanilla WoW.

I think the built in calender is fine for scheduling raids. I don't see the need in using this add-on.

The built in calendar is actually terrible compared to any addons it was allegedly supposed to replace. You can't tell in what order people signed up, or impose a cap on the number of any given class who can sign up (any extras being put on standby automatically.)
It would preserve group balance, allow people to see exactly where they stand in the sign-ups, help keep a balance on the people rolling on loot, and help to eliminate QQ'ing about signing up and not getting invited.
